What is the 10/40 Window? Let us start with what it is not . . . a tax form! It is however an area of our world that stretches from western Africa to east Asia that lies between ten degrees north to forty degrees north of the equator. It also represents the greatest challenge to cross-cultural ministry as we move into this new century. Many mission organizations and churches have now focused in on the countries that are in this resistant window. Believers have also come to grips with the reality of Christian persecution and suffering that exists. In order to reach these unreached, we will have to cross the lines of repression and danger. The 10/40 window is home to some of the top offenders of the Christian faith that includes: Sudan, Saudi Arabia, North Korea, China, Vietnam, Egypt, Pakistan, Iraq, Iran, Nigeria and others that restrain the message and followers of Jesus Christ. The Last, the Least . . . Of the people who are living in absolute poverty, only twenty percent are found outside of this region. Which leaves eighty percent of the worlds desperately poor within the territory of the window. Of the fifty-five nations that are considered to be the least evangelized places on earth only 10 of these countries are not inside this zone. And the Lost . . . Ninety-seven percent of the unreached people groups in our world reside in the 10/40 window. An astounding seventy percent of them live in Gospel threatening nations! Many ministries have been called of the Lord to work alongside
each other ministering inside this window for years. Their objective before the
Lord is to encourage and build-up the existing church in these countries in
order that they will have the strength, courage and love to reach their own
nations for Christ. The 10/40 window known as the "belt of resistance"
can also be viewed today as the churches greatest window of opportunity. ~~~~~~~~
