Actions Speak Louder Than Words

Do actions speak louder than words?

Yes, they always do. We can "say" that we are going to do something, but not do it. We can "boast" of great things, but if our deeds do not match what we have said, our words are meaningless! It is our actions that give validity to our words.

In the same way, a faith that doesn't produce works is not a living faith. It is simply a "said" faith. It is possible for us to know the right things - and still be far from the Lord. When Jesus confronted the religious leaders of His day, he quoted the prophet Isaiah, saying, "These people draw near to Me with their mouth, and honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me" (Matthew 15:8).

It is one thing to be able to say it, it's another thing to be able to do! The "doing" demonstrates the truth of your commitment. We are saved by faith, but our actions show that our faith is real! When you truly believe in Jesus Christ your life is going to be transformed and there is going to be evidence of your faith by the way you live.

Chuck Colson once told the story of Mickey Cohen, an infamous gangster of the postwar era. One night Cohen attended an evangelistic meeting and seemed interested. Realizing what a dramatic impact his conversion could have on the whole world, many Christian leaders began visiting him. After one long night session, he was urged to open the door and let Christ in, based on Revelation 3:20. Cohen responded.

Yet as the months passed, people saw no change in his life of crime. When confronted, he responded that no one had told him he would have to give up his work or his friends. After all, there were Christian football players, Christian cowboys, Christian politicians; why not a Christian gangster?

It was only them that he was told about repentance. And at that point he wanted nothing to do with Christianity.

"What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works?"

Do your actions speak louder than your words?
