Cutting & Sewing Directions

for Operation Christmas Stocking

Stockings:

Shape: Rectangular

Measurements: 18” [height] x 15” (width)               

Fabric: Durable, any color

Drawstring Opening: 1”

Drawstring Material: Cord or similar material [46” long]

Tags:

Measurements: 3” x 3”

Fabric: Cotton or muslin (white preferred)

Cutting Instructions:

      · Fold fabric in half creating

          o Bottom of bag at fold

          o Front side; and

          o Back side of bag

    · Cut both sides and top of bag to measurements listed above.

    · Do not cut bottom of bag [fold].

    · Cut out tags to measurements listed above using pinking shears to avoid fraying and for aesthetics.

Sewing Instructions:

      · Sew sides of bag using a ½” seam. Sew in tag along seam near top of bag allowing 3 sides of tag to hang out from bag (see picture). Tags will be marked for recipient’s gender and age by warehouse workers.

      · Prepare opening for drawstring at top of bag by turning fabric under ¼” to avoid raw edge, then turn fabric under ¾” and sew bottom of opening. Insert cord during sewing of opening or draw cord through opening with safety pin after sewing.
